The Ladies
“Why do women go to the toilet in pairs?” asks the majority of the worlds population. “Haven’t got a bloody clue,” reply most - except those who have seen this fine production by Rebecca Neal (Rebecca Russell) and Jenny Wafer.
They have created three 20-minute scenarios between three different pairs of women. Each situation (a church luncheon, a toddlers’ group, a teenage disco) is immediately intruiging by the spot-on dialogue which develops each character with perfect pace and accuracy.
Neal and Kate Russell are both superb character actresses who convince the audience to identify or sympathise with the experiences of their alter-egos regarding motherhood and the disruptive nature of men. A particular highlight is the schoolgirl disco scenario which addresses adolescent sexual attitude and the temptation of parties. Neal and Russell wisely avoid parody and portray their cider swigging counterparts with credibility and authenticity.
A small scale show of notable quality. CAMERON ROBERTSON
